Capitalization of Months of the Year
Since the months of the year are classed as proper nouns, they should always begin with a capital letter, no matter where they appear in a sentence, in the beginning, in the middle, or in the end of the sentence. There is never an exception to this rule. Take a look at these examples:
- June is my favourite month. (Month appears in the beginning)
- My birthday is in March. ( Appears at the end of the sentence)
- My friends will be here in March for the celebration. ( Appears in the middle of the sentence)
American VS British
British and American sound noticeably different. The most obvious difference is the way the letter “r” is pronounced. If you want to pronounce the months of the year in British English, follow the tips mentioned below;
- 1. Whenever the letter “r” is followed by a vowel, pronounce the “r”.
- 2. Whenever the letter “r” is followed by a consonant or it stays at the end of the word, don’t pronounce the letter “r”, it’s just a schwa sound.

In American English, there is no difference at all, it is always pronounced.
